Placing 60 seeds in a dish with tweezers is slow and hard to keep even. Filling, levelling and lifting takes seconds, and the spacing is the same every time.
Even spacing, every dish
The pattern is cut into the mesh plate, so seeds land on the same grid in every dish. Germination scoring stays comparable between dishes and between operators.
Change species in seconds
The mesh plate sets the species. Swap it and the same dispenser body sows a different seed, with no adjustment and no second instrument.
No static jump
The stainless steel plate and the short drop keep small seeds where they land, which matters most with Arabidopsis and other fine seed.

The LabTIE Seed Dispenser is a manual system that places seeds one at a time, at every position, in a single movement. You pour the seed onto the mesh plate, tilt the surplus back into the tray, set the dispenser over your container and lift the plate away. It was developed to replace sowing by tweezers and by hand in labs that prepare many dishes, plates or trays a day.
This is the round petri dish format. The mesh plate decides which species is sown and how many positions the dish carries, and the holder is cut to the outer diameter of your own dish so the pattern sits centred. The standard build places 60 seeds per dish; other counts and spacings are made to order.
It is used for germination and vigour screening, seed treatment and coating trials, plant breeding selections and pathology assays on agar. Anywhere a round dish has to be sown evenly and repeatably.

How does it work?
Pour your seeds onto the mesh plate, tilt the dispenser so the surplus runs back into the tray, set it over the petri dish and lift the plate away. Every position releases a single seed at the same moment, so one dish is sown in one motion instead of seed by seed with tweezers.
How many seeds does one dish take?
The standard build places 60 seeds across a round dish in an even pattern. Other counts and patterns are made to order, so tell us the dish diameter and the spacing you want on your quote request.
Which petri dishes does it fit?
The dispenser is built around the dish you actually use. Send the brand, part number and outer diameter with your quote request and we confirm the fit before building; standard round dishes are the usual case.
Which seeds does it handle?
Seeds from about 0.2 to 9.0 mm, one per position, the same range as the other LabTIE seed formats. Arabidopsis thaliana, lettuce, onion, brassica and the other species listed on this page all have their own mesh plate.
Can I sow a different species with the same dispenser?
Yes. The mesh plate sets the species, so swapping the plate is all it takes; the dispenser body and the dish holder stay the same. Extra plates can be added to any quote.
Can it dispense more than one seed per position?
The standard plate is cut for single seed placement. Multi-seed patterns are possible as a custom mesh plate, made to the count you specify.
How is it cleaned between seed lots?
It comes apart without tools, so the body, slider and mesh plate can each be brushed out and dried before the next lot. The mesh plate is stainless steel and can be autoclaved.
How long does delivery take?
Shipping is world wide with DHL Express and takes 7 to 20 working days. Custom dish holders and mesh plates take longer because they are made to your specification.
