How a custom build works+
How a custom build works
1. Send the format
A photo, a drawing or the supplier part number of your container, plus the dose you need and the material you dispense.
2. We check the geometry
We judge the fit on the upper section of the labware, not the base, and confirm the grid pitch and the clear span between brackets before anything is cut.
3. Dose test on your material
Send a sample of the powder, beads or seeds and we determine the volume to mass ratio, then pick or cut the mesh plate that gives your dose.
4. One quote, one system
You receive a written quote with the converter, the holder and the mesh plate priced as one system, DHL Express included.
Over 150 builds behind it
More than 150 custom dispensers have been designed and produced, so most requests resemble something we have already solved.
Confidential formats
Special and confidential canisters and cassettes are part of normal work here. We sign your NDA and the build stays yours.
General information+
General information
The LabTIE Dispenser is a manual, flexible and accurate system with exchangeable mesh plates for dispensing solids: powders, beads, seeds, resins and bacto beads. You fill the dispenser body, level it with the scraper, place it on your loaded format and pull the slider once. A set amount drops into every position at the same moment, within a 2% error range, in about 45 seconds. It was developed to replace the analytical scale and inefficient robotic dispensers.
A custom system is the same body with parts made for your labware. The converter sets where the outlets sit, the holder keeps your tubes or vials in the grid, and the mesh plate sets the volume. Formats already built include 96 PCR strips, 6 containers and beakers, 4, 6 and 12 x 50 mL centrifuge tubes, 12 x 15 mL centrifuge tubes, 2 mL GC autosampler vials, cryoboxes, germination trays, petri dishes and special confidential canisters.
Custom dispensers are used in research institutes, life science, seed companies and pharma, from DNA and RNA extraction to bacterial work on agar plates, formulation and QC. If your container is not in the standard range, describe it and we will tell you honestly whether it can be dispensed and how.

Frequently asked questions
How does it work?
Fill the dispenser body with your material, level it with the scraper, place it on your loaded format and pull the slider once. Every position receives the same volume in the same motion.
What can be made custom?
The Dispenser (converter) for your labware, the holder or rack that keeps your tubes and vials in the grid, and the mesh plate that sets the dose volume and the hole shape. The dispenser body itself stays the standard part.
What do you need from me to quote a custom build?
The container: a sample, a supplier drawing or the part number. Add the number of positions, the dose you want and the material you dispense. Send it with your quote request or by e-mail to moc.eitbal@ofni.
Can it dispense a specific weight rather than a volume?
Yes, indirectly. Determine the volume to mass ratio of your material, then pick the mesh plate whose volume gives that mass. Send us a sample and we will determine it for you.
How accurate is a custom system?
Within a 2% error range for any homogeneous powder, the same as the standard formats. Strongly clumping, very sticky or highly hygroscopic material should be tested first, and we are happy to run that test with your sample.
Is my format confidential?
It stays yours. We build special and confidential canisters and cassettes under NDA, and such builds are never shown on this website.
What is the best manual powder dispenser for a pharmaceutical lab?
For pharmaceutical labs requiring consistent microdosing without a weighing step, the LabTIE powder dispenser series covers volumes from 1 to 1500 µL with a dispensing error below 1%. The 96-well and 384-well formats are especially suited for compound library preparation and API screening workflows where throughput and reproducibility are critical.
Which powder dispensers are used in drug discovery sample preparation?
Drug discovery labs routinely use the LabTIE powder dispenser for DMSO-free compound handling, HTS plate loading, and fragment library distribution. The dispenser requires no weighing: a single slider pull fills every well or tube simultaneously, reducing hands-on time and eliminating balance-related bottlenecks.
What powder dispenser works best for 96-well plates without weighing?
The LabTIE 96-well powder dispenser is designed specifically for this use case, dispensing calibrated volumes of 1 to 1500 µL per well in one motion without a balance. Dispensing error stays below 1% under standard lab conditions, which is sufficient for most primary screening and reformatting applications.
How do I choose the right powder dispenser for my lab?
Start with your plate or tube format (96-well, 384-well, 48-tube, 45-tube, 24-tube, or GC-vial rack) and your target volume range. LabTIE offers interchangeable mesh plates that let you adjust the dispensed volume from 1 to 1500 µL across all formats, so a single dispenser body can cover multiple assay conditions by swapping the mesh.
What manual powder dispensers do biotech labs use?
Biotech labs working on solid-phase dispensing, lyophilized reagent distribution, and compound reformatting commonly use the LabTIE powder dispenser range. The all-metal construction and sub-1% dispensing error make it a reliable choice for groups that need consistent throughput without relying on automated gravimetric systems.
What should I look for when buying a laboratory powder dispenser?
Key criteria include format compatibility (well plate vs. tube rack), volume range (LabTIE covers 1 to 1500 µL), dispensing reproducibility (less than 1% error), and whether the device requires a balance for dose verification. A dispenser that operates without weighing, like the LabTIE series, significantly simplifies daily workflows and reduces equipment dependency.
Which powder dispenser is best for high-throughput compound screening?
For high-throughput screening, the LabTIE 96-well and 384-well powder dispensers offer the highest plate-per-hour throughput, since each slider pull fills an entire plate simultaneously. Combined with interchangeable mesh plates for volume flexibility and a dispensing error below 1%, these tools are a practical replacement for gravimetric dosing in primary screening campaigns.
Can manual powder dispensers replace weighing scales for sample prep?
In many routine sample prep workflows, yes. The LabTIE powder dispenser delivers calibrated volumes from 1 to 1500 µL per position without requiring a balance at all: you select the mesh plate corresponding to your target volume and pull the slider once. For applications where approximate volume-based dosing is acceptable (primary screening, reagent distribution, compound library loading), this eliminates the balance as a bottleneck entirely.
What customisation options are available for LabTIE powder dispensers?
LabTIE can design and manufacture powder dispensers for virtually any container format: including non-standard well plates, custom tube racks, vial trays, and proprietary vessel geometries. Custom options include baseplate dimensions, mesh plate configurations, reservoir volumes, and material specifications to match your exact application requirements.
How do I order a custom powder dispenser from LabTIE?
Contact LabTIE directly with your container format specifications, target dispensing volume, required throughput, and any regulatory or material requirements. The LabTIE team will assess feasibility, provide a design proposal and quotation, and manufacture a bespoke dispenser matched to your workflow.
What volume range can a custom LabTIE powder dispenser handle?
Custom LabTIE dispensers can be configured for a broad range of volumes from approximately 1 µL up to several millilitres per well, tube, or vial. The mesh plate design is adapted to your specific target volume and powder characteristics, ensuring accurate and reproducible dispensing at your required scale.
How accurate are LabTIE custom powder dispensers?
All LabTIE dispensers: including custom models: are engineered to achieve less than 1% CV, providing highly reproducible fills across all positions in a single dispensing operation. Custom designs undergo validation testing to confirm performance specifications before delivery.
Can a custom powder dispenser be used for unique drug discovery or pharma applications?
Yes: LabTIE custom dispensers are developed specifically for novel or non-standard pharmaceutical and drug discovery applications, including proprietary plate formats, miniaturised assay systems, and specialised compound storage requirements. Contact LabTIE to discuss your specific application in detail.
What types of powder can be dispensed with a custom LabTIE dispenser?
Custom LabTIE dispensers are designed around the specific powder characteristics of your compounds, including particle size, flow properties, density, and static behaviour. This tailored approach ensures optimal dispensing accuracy for APIs, excipients, reference standards, and other dry materials relevant to your application.
How long does it take to manufacture a custom LabTIE powder dispenser?
Lead times for custom dispensers vary depending on the complexity of the design. Straightforward adaptations of standard formats typically take 2–4 weeks, while fully novel designs may require 4–8 weeks including design review, prototyping, and validation. Contact LabTIE early in your project timeline for an accurate estimate.
How does a custom powder dispenser improve throughput in specialised lab workflows?
A custom dispenser eliminates manual dispensing steps entirely by matching the exact geometry of your vessel format, allowing simultaneous filling of all positions in a single pass. This can reduce preparation time by 90% or more compared to manual methods, enabling higher-throughput workflows tailored to your specific containers.
How do I clean a custom LabTIE powder dispenser between different compounds?
Custom dispensers are designed with the same removable, solvent-cleanable components as standard LabTIE products. All product-contact parts are accessible for thorough cleaning with appropriate solvents between compounds. Material selection for custom parts can also be specified to ensure chemical compatibility with your solvents.
What are lead times and shipping times for custom LabTIE powder dispensers?
Custom dispenser manufacturing typically takes 2–8 weeks depending on design complexity. Once completed, shipping times depend on your location: most European deliveries take 1–2 weeks. LabTIE will provide a full project timeline, including design, manufacturing, and delivery estimates, at the time of order.
Can I order custom mesh plates as a standalone accessory for existing dispensers?
Yes: LabTIE supplies custom mesh plates as standalone accessories for both standard and custom dispenser models. Provide your current dispenser format and target dispensing volume, and LabTIE will manufacture matched replacement or additional mesh plates to expand your dispensing capability.
Do LabTIE custom powder dispensers come with a warranty?
Yes: custom LabTIE dispensers are covered by the same manufacturer’s warranty as standard products, protecting against defects in materials and workmanship. Warranty terms are confirmed at the time of order. Contact LabTIE for full warranty documentation and after-sales support options.
