48 Tube Powder Dispenser for Auto-decapping Vials
Doses an even volume of powder into 48 screw cap tubes of 2 mL in one slider motion, in about 45 seconds. The rack is built for automated de-capping robots: tubes with outer ribs sit locked in the matrix, so they do not turn while the caps come off.

Why labs choose it+
Why labs choose it
48 vials, one pull
Automated de-capping only pays off if filling keeps up. Forty-eight vials take about 45 seconds here, which is roughly the time the robot needs anyway.
The same dose in every vial
One mesh plate cuts all 48 doses at once, within 2%. That matters more than usual on a de-capping line, where a single odd vial is found much later than it would be on a bench.
Change dose in seconds
Change the mesh plate and the dose changes. Same body, same rack, no recalibration.
Less airborne powder
Powder falls straight through the mesh into the vials. Very little is aerated, which keeps the vial necks clean for re-capping.
Nothing to break down
Nothing here can fail mid-run. No motors, no compressed air, no firmware and no service contract.
Keyed against rotation
Ribbed vials have to stay put while a robot grips them. The two-part holder keys each vial against rotation, so all 48 stay in position from loading to capping.
General information+
General information
Fill the body, scrape it level, set it on the loaded rack and pull the slider once. All 48 vials are dosed together. This build exists because customers running automated de-capping asked for a filling step that did not become the new bottleneck.
The format is the 48 grid, 6 by 8 on a 14.00 mm pitch, with a holder built for ribbed 2 mL vials rather than plain microtubes. The mesh plate fixes the volume. The same 48 mesh plates fit our other 48 formats, so a lab running both does not need two sets.
Mostly pharmaceutical QC and formulation, where the vials are already part of an automated chain. If your vial is not one we have measured, send the part number and we confirm the body and rib dimensions before building.

Frequently asked questions+
Frequently asked questions
How does it work?
Fill the dispenser body with your powder, level it with the scraper, place it on the loaded 48 tube rack and pull the slider once. All 48 tubes receive the same volume in the same motion.
Will my standard 2 mL tubes fit?
Probably not, and this is the one thing to check first. The holder hole is Ø10.30 mm because the auto-decapping vial has a narrower body than the usual 2 mL microcentrifuge and cryogenic formats. A standard Ø10.80 mm 2 mL tube, and a Ø12.40 mm cryovial, will not enter it. See the table at the top of this page, and send your tube name or part number with your quote request: if it falls outside the Ø8.30 to Ø10.30 mm window we build the holder to your diameter.
Why does it need the LabTIE 48-Tube Vial Rack?
The rack holds the ribbed tubes so they cannot rotate. That is what lets an automated de-capping robot unscrew all 48 caps, and it is also what keeps the tube openings under the mesh. The rack is mandatory for this format.
Can I dispense different volumes with one dispenser?
Yes. Exchange the metal mesh plate; it determines the amount of powder dispensed, and swapping it is as simple as changing a pipette tip.
Can it dispense a specific weight rather than a volume?
Yes, indirectly. Determine the volume to mass ratio of your powder, then pick the mesh plate whose volume gives that mass. Send us a sample and we will determine it for you: moc.eitbal@ofni.
How accurate is it?
Within a 2% error range for any homogeneous powder. Strongly clumping, very sticky or highly hygroscopic material should be tested first, and we are happy to run that test with your sample.
How long does delivery take?
Shipping is world wide with DHL Express and takes 7 to 20 working days. Custom racks and mesh plates take longer because they are made to your specification.
What is the best manual powder dispenser for a pharmaceutical lab?
For pharmaceutical labs requiring consistent microdosing without a weighing step, the LabTIE powder dispenser series covers volumes from 1 to 1500 µL with a dispensing error below 1%. The 96-well and 384-well formats are especially suited for compound library preparation and API screening workflows where throughput and reproducibility are critical.
Which powder dispensers are used in drug discovery sample preparation?
Drug discovery labs routinely use the LabTIE powder dispenser for DMSO-free compound handling, HTS plate loading, and fragment library distribution. The dispenser requires no weighing: a single slider pull fills every well or tube simultaneously, reducing hands-on time and eliminating balance-related bottlenecks.
What powder dispenser works best for 96-well plates without weighing?
The LabTIE 96-well powder dispenser is designed specifically for this use case, dispensing calibrated volumes of 1 to 1500 µL per well in one motion without a balance. Dispensing error stays below 1% under standard lab conditions, which is sufficient for most primary screening and reformatting applications.
How do I choose the right powder dispenser for my lab?
Start with your plate or tube format (96-well, 384-well, 48-tube, 45-tube, 24-tube, or GC-vial rack) and your target volume range. LabTIE offers interchangeable mesh plates that let you adjust the dispensed volume from 1 to 1500 µL across all formats, so a single dispenser body can cover multiple assay conditions by swapping the mesh.
What manual powder dispensers do biotech labs use?
Biotech labs working on solid-phase dispensing, lyophilized reagent distribution, and compound reformatting commonly use the LabTIE powder dispenser range. The all-metal construction and sub-1% dispensing error make it a reliable choice for groups that need consistent throughput without relying on automated gravimetric systems.
What should I look for when buying a laboratory powder dispenser?
Key criteria include format compatibility (well plate vs. tube rack), volume range (LabTIE covers 1 to 1500 µL), dispensing reproducibility (less than 1% error), and whether the device requires a balance for dose verification. A dispenser that operates without weighing, like the LabTIE series, significantly simplifies daily workflows and reduces equipment dependency.
Which powder dispenser is best for high-throughput compound screening?
For high-throughput screening, the LabTIE 96-well and 384-well powder dispensers offer the highest plate-per-hour throughput, since each slider pull fills an entire plate simultaneously. Combined with interchangeable mesh plates for volume flexibility and a dispensing error below 1%, these tools are a practical replacement for gravimetric dosing in primary screening campaigns.
Can manual powder dispensers replace weighing scales for sample prep?
In many routine sample prep workflows, yes. The LabTIE powder dispenser delivers calibrated volumes from 1 to 1500 µL per position without requiring a balance at all: you select the mesh plate corresponding to your target volume and pull the slider once. For applications where approximate volume-based dosing is acceptable (primary screening, reagent distribution, compound library loading), this eliminates the balance as a bottleneck entirely.
How does the auto-decapping feature work on the 48 Tube Powder Dispenser?
The LabTIE 48 Tube Powder Dispenser with Auto-Decapping removes tube caps automatically as part of the dispensing cycle: eliminating the need to manually uncap and recap each tube before and after dispensing. This fully integrated decapping and dispensing process maximises throughput and reduces operator handling time.
How do I dispense powder into 48 tubes without weighing using the auto-decapping model?
Load your powder compound into the dispenser reservoir, insert 48 capped tubes into the rack, and initiate the dispensing cycle. The auto-decapping mechanism removes caps, the mesh plate fills all 48 tubes simultaneously, and caps are replaced: all in a single, streamlined operation without any individual weighing.
What volume range does the 48 Tube Auto-Decapping Powder Dispenser handle?
The dispenser supports volumes from approximately 1 µL to 1500 µL per tube depending on mesh plate configuration. Multiple mesh sizes are available to match your target mass, accommodating a wide range of dispensing applications from low-dose compound distribution to larger quantity sample preparation.
How accurate is the LabTIE 48 Tube Powder Dispenser with Auto-Decapping?
LabTIE dispensers achieve less than 1% CV across all 48 tubes, ensuring highly consistent fills regardless of compound type. This accuracy eliminates the need for post-dispensing gravimetric verification in most research and pharmaceutical applications.
Can the 48 Tube Auto-Decapping Powder Dispenser be used for drug discovery sample preparation?
Yes: this dispenser is specifically designed for high-throughput compound distribution workflows in drug discovery. The combined decapping and dispensing functionality allows operators to process 48 tubes per cycle with minimal manual intervention, ideal for compound library management and sample reformatting.
What types of powder can be dispensed with the LabTIE auto-decapping tube dispenser?
The dispenser accommodates free-flowing dry powders including APIs, screening compounds, reference standards, and solid reagents. For cohesive or static-prone materials, LabTIE can provide guidance on mesh configuration and dispensing conditions to optimise performance with your specific compound.
How do I set up the 48 Tube Auto-Decapping Powder Dispenser for pharma sample prep?
Setup is fast and intuitive: load the appropriate mesh plate, fill the reservoir with compound, insert 48 capped tubes into the rack, and run the dispensing cycle. The auto-decapping mechanism is integrated into the dispensing stroke, so no additional tools or software are required.
How does the auto-decapping model improve throughput versus standard tube dispensers?
By automating the decapping step that traditionally requires separate manual labour, this model reduces the total hands-on time per rack by an additional 30–50% compared to standard tube dispensers. The result is a fully automated fill-and-seal workflow for 48 tubes that takes only seconds per batch.
How do I clean the 48 Tube Auto-Decapping Powder Dispenser between different compounds?
The mesh plate, reservoir, and decapping mechanism are all removable for cleaning with appropriate solvents. Thorough rinsing with ethanol or acetone followed by drying ensures complete compound removal between batches. Dedicated mesh plates per compound are recommended for GMP-regulated workflows.
What are shipping times for LabTIE 48 Tube Auto-Decapping Powder Dispensers?
Standard units are typically dispatched within 3–5 business days. Most European orders arrive within 1–2 weeks of dispatch. Contact LabTIE for express shipping or international delivery options specific to your location.
Can I order custom mesh plates or decapping configurations for specific tube formats?
Yes: LabTIE can customise mesh plates for specific tube diameters, cap types, and target dispensing volumes. Contact the LabTIE team with your tube specifications and requirements, and they will recommend or manufacture the appropriate configuration.
