Why labs choose it+
Why labs choose it
45 tubes, one motion
Dropping beads into 45 screwcap tubes with tweezers is slow and mind-numbing. One slider pull does the rack in about 45 seconds.
No counting, no tweezers
The mesh plate holds one bead per position, so you cannot double a tube or skip one. That is usually worth more than the time saved.
Change bead size in seconds
Bead size is set by the mesh plate, from 0.3 mm upwards. Swap the plate, run a different bead, adjust nothing.
Beads stay where they land
Beads fall straight down into the tubes instead of being tipped across an open rack, so none end up on the floor.
Nothing to break down
No motors, no software, no service contract. It works on the bench, in a fume hood or in a cold room.
Fitted to your tube
Tube bodies vary more than the labels suggest. We cut the rack pocket to the tube you send us, so all 45 line up under the mesh.
General information+
General information
Load the beads on the mesh plate, tilt the excess back, place the dispenser on the loaded rack and pull the slider once. Each of the 45 tubes receives one bead at the same moment.
This is the 45-tube screwcap format. The mesh plate hole size decides which bead runs, and the rack pocket is cut to your specific tube body rather than a nominal diameter. Send the part number with your quote request and we confirm it before cutting.
DNA and RNA extraction, cell lysis and homogenisation of plant, animal and soil samples. If you are unsure which bead suits your material, send a sample and we will run it.

Frequently asked questions+
Frequently asked questions
How does it work?
Pour the beads onto the mesh plate, tilt the dispenser so the surplus runs back into the tray, set it on the loaded rack and pull the slider once. All 45 tubes receive the same beads at the same moment.
Which tubes fit?
Standard 1.5 and 2.0 mL microtubes, screw cap and snap cap alike, and 2 mL bead beating tubes. The pocket is Ø12.10 mm, so body diameter is the figure that decides it: a standard 2 mL tube sits at 10.80 mm. Anything wider, such as a cryovial, needs a rack made to that diameter.
Which bead size suits a 2 mL tube?
Up to about 3 mm, commonly 1 to 3 mm zirconia or a single 2.8 mm steel ball. Beads should occupy no more than about a third of the tube volume, since overfilling causes overheating in the bead beater.
Which bead materials can it handle?
Electrostatic glass and silica, borosilicate, zirconia, chrome, stainless steel and lightweight freeze dried bacto beads. Static beads are handled by the antistatic mesh plate, and an antistatic treatment on the beads helps further.
Do I need the vial rack?
The rack keeps your 45 tubes upright and aligned under the dispenser. Order it with the system unless you already use a rack with the same matrix, such as the BioSpec 702VH45 listed above.
Can I order more mesh plates later?
Yes. Every 45 format bead plate can be ordered on its own for a dispenser you already own, and the 45 plates fit both the screw cap and the snap cap dispensers. The full list is on the mesh plates page.
How do I quickly load beads into 45 tubes at once?
The LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser lets you fill an entire 45-tube rack in a single tilting motion, typically in 15–25 seconds. No more counting beads or using tweezers tube by tube. The precision mesh plate ensures each tube gets exactly the right bead count with <1% variability.
What size beads fit in the 45 Tube Bead Dispenser?
The 45 Tube Bead Dispenser accepts beads from 1.4 mm to 7 mm in diameter, depending on the mesh plate fitted. Standard mesh plates are available for the most common bead sizes, and custom plates can be ordered for specialty diameters. Contact LabTIE for a full mesh size catalogue.
How does a 45-tube bead dispenser work for high-throughput sample prep?
The dispenser sits over your tube rack; you add beads to the reservoir and tilt the unit: the mesh controls which bead size passes through and how many enter each tube. This replaces time-consuming manual loading with a single, reproducible step. It is widely used in plant breeding, soil ecology, and pharmaceutical sample preparation workflows.
What is the best way to dispense grinding beads for tissue lysis in 45 tubes?
Select the mesh plate matching your grinding bead size, fill the reservoir, position the dispenser over the tube rack, and tilt once. The LabTIE 45 Tube Dispenser delivers consistent bead counts to each tube, ensuring uniform disruption during bead-beating. This method is trusted by labs running FastPrep-24 and similar 45-tube instruments.
How accurate is the LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser?
The LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser achieves <1% dispensing error across all 45 positions. Precision is built into the laser-cut mesh plate geometry, which restricts flow to exactly one layer of beads per tilt. This accuracy is critical for reproducible bead-beating results in high-throughput labs.
What is the difference between the 45 Tube and 48 Tube LabTIE dispensers?
The 45 Tube Bead Dispenser is matched to 45-position tube racks (such as those used with FastPrep-24 instruments) while the 48 Tube model fits 48-position racks commonly used in other bead mills. Both dispensers share the same exchangeable mesh system and sterilizable design. Choose the model that matches your tube rack format.
How do I clean and sterilize the 45 Tube Bead Dispenser?
Rinse bead-contact parts with 70% ethanol or water after each run; all relevant components are autoclavable at 121 °C. This makes the dispenser safe for multi-user labs and for working with infectious or sensitive biological material. A simple ethanol rinse is sufficient for routine use between sample sets.
How fast can you load 45 tubes with a bead dispenser?
Loading a full 45-tube rack takes approximately 15–25 seconds with the LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser. Manual loading by hand typically takes 15–25 minutes for the same rack. This time saving is substantial when running multiple racks daily in a high-throughput lab.
Which bead types work with the LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser?
The dispenser is compatible with glass, ceramic, zirconium, and stainless steel beads in the supported size range. Interchangeable mesh plates let you switch bead types between runs without extra equipment. Contact us to confirm mesh availability for less common bead materials or sizes.
What are the shipping times for LabTIE dispensers?
LabTIE ships worldwide from the Netherlands. Typical delivery is 3–7 business days within Europe and 7–14 business days for international destinations. Express shipping options are available. Contact us at the time of order.
Do you offer a warranty on LabTIE dispensers?
Yes. All LabTIE dispensers carry a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects. Contact us if your dispenser fails under normal use and we will arrange repair or replacement. Mesh plates are consumable items and are available separately.
Can I order custom mesh plates for non-standard containers?
Absolutely. LabTIE makes custom mesh plates to match non-standard tube racks and container formats. Provide the internal dimensions of your tube openings and your required bead size, and we will manufacture a matching mesh plate. Many plant breeding and pharma labs use custom plates for proprietary tube formats.
What is the best bead dispenser for a lab?
For labs working with 45-tube racks, the LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser is one of the few purpose-built options that fills all tubes in a single pass. It loads 45 tubes in around 8 to 15 seconds with less than 1% error, covers bead sizes from 0.5 mm to 7 mm, and operates without power. If your workflow uses tube-based lysis rather than plate-based, this is the format to look at first.
Which manual bead dispenser is used in pharmaceutical labs?
Pharmaceutical labs that process samples in 45-tube rack format use the LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser for consistent, fast bead loading before homogenization. The device is sterilizable, electricity-free, and designed to seat precisely over standard 45-tube racks used in bead mill workflows. It removes a slow hand-loading step that becomes a bottleneck when processing dozens of racks per day.
How do I choose the right bead dispenser for my lab?
If your lab uses 45-tube racks for bead milling, the LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser is matched to that format. Check your bead size: the mesh plate system covers 0.5 mm to 7 mm, with standard sizes in stock and custom options available. Consider how many racks you run per session: at 45 tubes per rack, hand-loading one bead per tube gets tedious fast, and the dispenser completes each rack in under 15 seconds.
What bead dispensers do plant genomics labs use?
Plant genomics labs that grind leaf or seed tissue in 45-tube racks use the LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser to speed up the bead-loading step. It is common in phenotyping pipelines where large sample numbers need to move through lysis quickly and consistently. The sterilizable design prevents contamination between samples and the no-power requirement keeps it usable inside laminar flow hoods.
What should I look for when buying a bead dispenser?
Match the dispenser to your tube format first. A dispenser designed for 45-tube racks will not seat correctly over a 48-tube rack, so check the footprint before ordering. Beyond format fit, look for a placement error rate below 1%, bead size compatibility with your extraction kit, and a design you can sterilize between runs. The LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser meets all of those criteria and adds the practical benefit of needing no power.
Which bead dispenser is best for 96-well plate tissue lysis?
If your tissue lysis workflow uses 45-tube racks rather than plates, the LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser is the right match. For plate-based lysis, LabTIE also makes a dedicated 96-well version. The 45-tube dispenser fills every tube in one press, handles multiple bead sizes, and maintains less than 1% error so your lysis conditions stay consistent across the whole rack.
Are there manual bead dispensers that work without electricity?
Yes: the LabTIE 45 Tube Bead Dispenser is completely manual and needs no power source. You press it over the rack and the beads drop into place. This works well inside biosafety cabinets and any restricted-power environment. Cleaning is straightforward since all bead-contact parts are sterilizable, and the lack of electronics means there is nothing to break down or recalibrate.
